Martin Mathelier was born in Monrovia Liberia on June 25, to Lucien and Marie Therese Mathelier both of Haitian origin. In 1968, along with his family, he moved to Port-au-Prince, Haiti where he lived for most of his formative years.
Surrounded by artists all his life, Martin almost had no choice but to be a musician and painter. While his friends were occupied with the usual adolescent issues, Martin was constantly learning the art of Jazz specially the Brazilian style of Bossa Nova. The guitar became his best method of communication and his way to express his love and sentiments.
